Reminded of other things that happened in Ashland as I write my way back home to Portland. \u00a0 Since I am just making a log of events to help feel more grounded about things I learned here, I would remember:<\/p>\n

Trips to the Klamath Wildlife Preserve. \u00a0 Yellow headed blackbirds and bald eagles sit by the road at different times. \u00a0 Thousands of snow geese flock through. \u00a0 The Refuge is a bird watcher’s paradise.<\/p>\n

“Klamath Basin Refuges consist of a variety of habitats including freshwater marshes, open water, grassy meadows, coniferous forests, sagebrush and juniper grasslands, agricultural lands, and rocky cliffs and slopes. These habitats support diverse and abundant populations of resident and migratory wildlife with 433 species having been observed on or near the Refuges. In addition, each year the Refuges serve as a migratory stopover for about three-quarters of the Pacific Flyway waterfowl, with peak fall concentrations of over 1 million birds.” \u00a0 from http:\/\/www.fws.gov\/klamathbasinrefuges\/history.html.<\/span>Rainy Tuesday. Garbage day. \u00a0 Recycling too.<\/p>\n

Impressive visits. \u00a0 I only got lost looking for the yellow headed black bird which was on the Tule Lake part of the reserve.\u00c2\u00a0 Dan knew where the eagles were and drove us right to them on my first excursion.\u00a0 He has a spotting scope and knows the ducks much better than I do.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another field trip for me was to Mt Shasta.\u00a0 I made a little hike into Panther Meadow and brought my friend, Mary Ann, potable water from the headwaters of the Sacramento river. \u00a0 One trip led me to a crystal shop where a woman was demonstrating singing bowls. \u00a0 I wanted one but hadn’t planned to buy one. \u00a0 The demonstrator said that it was better to go work with someone than to buy a $1000 bowl. \u00a0 Sadly that was my last visit to Mt. Shasta. \u00a0 Lovely but I didn’t find what I was looking for in that lovely little town. <\/span><\/p>\n

We revisited Lake of the Woods where we spent so very many weekends swimming in the lake. \u00a0 Also Fish Lake where my folks had a cabin. <\/span><\/p>\n

Anna and I went to a couple of plays: \u00a0 Macbeth and Our Town.\u00a0 Seems like I would go every week as there are specials for towns people. \u00a0 Haven’t done that.\u00a0 Played as a musician at the Shakespeare Festival in high school and college. \u00a0 Good memories but it was work. \u00a0 I carried my bass viol around up and down between buildings and up to the music room which was on a mid floor at the festival. \u00a0 Not an authentic instrument of the day but Bernie Windt used what he had. \u00a0 He was also high school music teacher so the bass was from the high school. <\/span><\/p>\n

Guess I am pulling from old memories and that is a different story. <\/span><\/p>\n
